Samsung 9E: Low Water Level Error
Medium severity
A Samsung dishwasher showing 9E has decided there isn't enough water in the tub to safely run the wash it was asked to run, and it stops rather than clean a load with too little water.
Applies to: Most Samsung DW-series dishwashers with digital displays
What it means
Samsung's support materials describe this plainly as a low-water-level fault. There isn't enough water in the tub for the dishwasher to run its wash cycle safely, which points back to whatever is limiting how much water reaches the tub in the first place.
Running a wash arm with too little water in the sump risks the pump running dry, so the control board would rather stop and flag 9E than let the motor spin without enough water to actually clean anything.
Common causes
- Water supply valve not fully open or recently shut off
- Low household water pressure
- A partially clogged inlet valve or fill line
- A stuck or faulty float switch reading the water level incorrectly
What you can check yourself
- Empty the dishwasher, confirm the water valve under the sink is fully open, and start a normal cycle
- Check the fill hose for kinks or blockages
- Gently check that the float dome on the tub floor moves up and down freely and isn't jammed by a dish or utensil
Call a professional when
If the code persists after confirming water supply and clearing the float, power off at the breaker and call a technician, since it may point to a failing water inlet valve or level sensor.
